ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — When it comes to college bowl games these days, storylines often are as much about who’s not playing rather than who actually is going to be on the field. With many stars choosing to opt out of postseason trips in favor of entering the transfer portal or preparing for the NFL draft, matchups like Thursday’s Pop-Tarts Bowl between No. 19 North Carolina State and Kansas State essentially become showcases for younger players and those older ones relishing an opportunity to take the field one more time.“I am going to enjoy one last ride with my teammates,” Kansas State All-American guard Cooper Beebe said. “There is a lot to enjoy and I’m excited to see a lot of these young guys step out for the first time and see what they can do.”The Wildcats (8-4) will be missing several key players, including quarterback Will Howard, who entered the transfer portal. They will also be without second-leading rusher Treshaun Ward and safety Kobe Savage. That l...

Report: Broncos may sit Russell Wilson for final 2 games

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Broncos have two games left this season and a complicated road to the playoffs, but a new report says they may be throwing in the towel.NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared on Twitter that the Broncos may be benching quarterback Russell Wilson. Can the Denver Broncos still make it to the playoffs after loss to Patriots? This would mean Jarrett Stidham, the only other quarterback on the team's roster as of Dec. 27, would likely be starting in those games.Stidham, 27, played for the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders before signing with the Broncos this season. While he hasn't played in the regular season here in Denver, he has been in 13 career games with a completion percentage of 58.8%. However, he's thrown more interceptions (seven) than touchdowns (six) during those appearances.Rapoport's tweet indicated the Broncos may be benching Wilson as a way to save money. If he is released or traded by the team before March of 2024 then his 2025 salary is...

A brother-in-law fascinated by the newspaper clippings he found glued to his walls while peeling off old wallpaper just had to see the original page from the Herald archives. That’s how I became useful on Christmas Day. If you have a historical itch you need to scratch, the Herald archives go back to the mid-1800s and I can assist. The better the story, the more we can share in the discovery. It’s fascinating stuff.
