Kurtenbach: The Warriors have the potential to win another title. But first they need to win a road game

Kurtenbach: The Warriors have the potential to win another title. But first they need to win a road game SAN FRANCSICO — Here we go again.I don’t know if two games constitute a home stand, but the Warriors won their Saturday and Sunday games at Chase Center. They did it in impressive fashion, too — beating the two favorites to win the NBA Finals this June.Yes, both the Bucks and Suns were missing their best players, but the victories carried weight for the Warriors, who looked focused and, in turn, also looked like a team that could beat both of those opponents again in the postseason.Which brings the Warriors right back to where they were at the beginning of last week. Can this team do what they did at Chase Center on the road?Scratch that. Can the Warriors do half of that away from their citadel by the Bay?Beggars can’t be choosers at this point.Golden State Warriors’ Jordan Poole #3 after drawing a foul while making a basket in the fourth quarter of their NBA game against the Phoenix Suns at the Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., on Monday, March 13, 2023. ‘Melania Trump knew’: Why Trump’s Stormy Daniels defense could be flawed If Donald Trump’s attorneys try to drag his wife Melania into his Stormy Daniels legal drama, he may have a problem.A former friend of Melania Trump said Tuesday that the former first lady “knew” about her husband’s alleged affair with Daniels — before he ordered his then-fixer Michael Cohen to pay the porn star $130,000 to buy her silence in the days before the 2016 presidential election.“‘Melania Defense’ in Stormy Daniels Hush-Money case WON’T WORK,” tweeted the ex-friend, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. “Why not? SF Giants injuries: Brandon Crawford speaks about his knee; González has back surgery, but there’s also good news

SF Giants injuries: Brandon Crawford speaks about his knee; González has back surgery, but there’s also good news SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Sometime around two weeks ago, Brandon Crawford felt something concerning in his left knee, something he hadn’t felt since last season, before his monthlong stint on the injured list and his strong finish. The discomfort had returned.“Those six weeks at the end of last season and for most of the offseason I didn’t really notice it,” Crawford, 36, said of the knee, which he first injured last season on a slide into home plate.Crawford thought the issue was behind him.“So it wasn’t a huge priority,” he continued, “which is honestly one of the biggest regrets I have of this offseason — not focusing more on it and making sure that it was good to go. Because I wasn’t really noticing it during the offseason. That part’s kind of a bummer.”Crawford received a cortisone shot on Sunday, he said. On Monday, the Giants announced that he wouldn’t participate in any baseball activities for at least a week, hoping to replicate the...

49ers free agency tracker: Center Jake Brendel’s return is key to continuity

49ers free agency tracker: Center Jake Brendel’s return is key to continuity SANTA CLARA — Whichever quarterback lines up behind the 49ers’ offensive line this season, there will be a familiar center snapping the ball: Jake Brendel.Brendel, after testing the free agency waters, is re-signing on a four-year, $20 million deal with $8 million guaranteed, the NFL Network first reported Tuesday. After losing right tackle Mike McGlinchey to the Denver Broncos’ blockbuster offer Monday, the 49ers’ offensive line wooed back Brendel from potential suitors, reportedly including a New York Jets franchise in the throes of pursuing Aaron Rodgers.Brendel started every game last season for the NFC runners-up, in succeeding the retired Alex Mack. It was Brendel’s first full season as a starter, and he ended up hiking the ball to four different quarterbacks: Trey Lance, Jimmy Garoppolo, Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson, with the latter two both sustaining injuries in the NFC Championship Game loss at Philadelphia.“It’s pretty wild to look back ...

SF Giants name Logan Webb Opening Day starter (but how does the rotation line up behind him?)

SF Giants name Logan Webb Opening Day starter (but how does the rotation line up behind him?) SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — It was so obvious, Gabe Kapler really didn’t need to say it.But here it goes, anyway.“Logan Webb will start for us on Opening Day,” the Giants manager said Tuesday morning before his ace took the mound for his third-to-final tuneup of the spring in preparation for March 30 at Yankee Stadium.Webb, 26, will be making his second straight start on Opening Day after earning the first nod of his career last season. While that start came at Oracle Park, this one comes on an even bigger stage, at Yankee Stadium against Gerrit Cole — and, yes, Aaron Judge.“It’s just an exciting thought,” Kapler said. “It’s pretty easy to visualize.”What still takes some imagination is how the Giants’ experienced group of starters lines up behind Webb. They have Alex Cobb, Alex Wood, Sean Manaea, Ross Stripling and Anthony DeSclafani, all of whom are healthy and expect to start games. Meanwhile, president of baseball operations Far...

When was the first Pi Day celebrated?

Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 05:03:36 GMT

When was the first Pi Day celebrated? Need another reason to celebrate today? Today is a celebration of math that can also trickle down to dessert!March 14 is celebrated by mathematicians because the numbers “3-14” represent the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159. The uniqueness of this calculation is that it doesn’t end at “59” but has been calculated to more than 50 trillion digits beyond the decimal point.Pi Pie, created at Delft University of Technology, applied physics, seismics and acoustics (Courtesy of Wikipedia Commons)Pi (a Greek symbol) is the symbol used in math to represent the unique value. The earliest observance of Pi Day was in 1988 by an employee of the San Francisco science museum, the Exploratorium. While mathematicians often discuss the significance of Pi on March 14, others may observe the holiday by eating and throwing pies! Pie, of course, is a homophone for the dessert we eat, sometimes every day!If you miss today’s celebration, try again in Novem...

Clemson’s Bresee continues on NFL path after sister’s death CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee put on a strong face and a good showing for NFL teams at Clemson’s pro day on Tuesday.Bresee, surrounded by teammates and family, continued moving forward on his pro football path after t he death of younger sister, Ella, this past September. Bresee missed four games because of 15-year-old Ella’s passing and a troubling kidney infection in October that sapped his strength and scared his family about whether his health was at risk. Through it all, Bresee leaned on the game he’s played since he was five. “Football was my escape for a lot of things,” he said last month. “Having my teammates, my family, my coaches, a lot of support around me was definitely crucial during that time.” Bresee, the 6-foot-5, 298-pounder, lifted weights, ran short-shuttle and three-cone drills and did defensive line workouts for personnel from all 32 pro teams including Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin, New York Giants defensive coordinato...
